Once your family doctor, surgeon, specialist, dentist, or chiropractor writes you a prescription for physical therapy, call our office to schedule your first visit.  Our phone number is (804) 249-8277. Keep in mind that your first apppointment will take about an hour so we can complete a thorough initial evaluation.

To save some time, we'd like you to fill out some forms before arriving.  Click HERE for the list of forms and print out what it applicable to you. Call us if you have any questions about the forms.   To read our Financial Policy Statement, HIPPA Policy, and Cancellation Policy, click HERE.

Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can review your benefits and responsibilities and make sure all of the initial paperwork is complete.

When you come to the clinic, have the following with you:

  • Your insurance card - we will make a copy and file it in your chart.
  • Your prescription for physical therapy from your caregiver.
  • Any applicable copay.

What to wear

Please wear or bring comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and will make it easy for your therapist to evaluate the problem area.  We do offer gowns  for your convenience but most patients wear shorts or sweat pants, loose fitting shirts, and sneakers.

Initial evaluation

During this initial evaluation, your physical therapist will examine you and come up with a plan for further treatment and a home exercise program. All of our therapists are trained in manual physical therapy techniques to assist in your recovery from injury or dysfunction.

Your physical therapist will give you a comprehensive hands-on evaluation including strength and motor testing, joint movement analysis and mechanics, tissue restriction analysis, neurological screening and functional motor testing.

He or she will spend time palpating for joint movement, tissue restrictions and disorders. Your therapist will use these manual skills to attempt to correct your problem. Your therapist will also develop a care plan and define goals that your doctor and your therapist would like you to achieve. These goals will be reviewed at each visit and will likely include an exercise program that is individually designed to enable your recovery.

On subsequent visits

Appointments last between 30 and 60 minutes. Please be on time and limit cancellations to emergencies only. It is often difficult to be re-scheduled in the same week. Please remember to call and let us know if you will be unable to attend. It is important for you to keep us informed of any changes that you may have such as a change in insurance, a change of address, a change of doctor, or anything related to your injury.

Ask questions

We place a strong emphasis on educating you about your condition, so please ask questions when you're here with us or call us and we'll be happy to help you understand your injury and treatment.

Doing your part

We will give you recommendations for ongoing exercises and proper body mechanics.  Your results with physical therapy are directly related to you following through with your home program.
